I THOUGHT I WAS A LIBERAL

One of the topics on the Jim and Margery NPR talk radio show yesterday was whether supporters of Donald Trump had to hide their feelings to avoid the wrath of friends and family members.  Some of his fans are in the closet and others have been outed, often in fun but just as often with negative outrage.

A number of callers to the show, however, said they’d been attacked by Bernie Sanders supporters, even after protesting they’d vote for whoever the Democratic candidate was in November. This was not good enough. You’re required to “feel the Bern” and to hate the wicked witch of the West, Hillary Clinton.

I can empathize with them.  I thought I was a liberal until Bernie Sanders came along.  Now I’m viewed as a moderate Republican because I’m not impressed by a superannuated Jewish socialist from Vermont whose nomination could result in losing the presidency in November and the Supreme Court next year.

Bernie supporters are like religious zealots.  They’re loaded with faith and overloaded with enthusiasm. They’re convinced he can win the general election, even though a Gallup poll showed that America would elect an atheist before it would elect a socialist.

Steve Hildebrand, deputy campaign manager for Barack Obama in 2008, said recently that at this point eight years ago they knew Obama would win the nomination based on the delegates he had and what they could project going forward. Right now, he continued, Hillary is in a stronger delegate position against Sanders than Obama was against Hillary. In other words, Hillary has the nomination sewn up.

Hillary’s campaign made huge mistakes regarding delegates in 2008, but she learned from them and made the necessary corrections. She’s not going to get blind-sided again by an unknown candidate.

There are other indications Hillary will be the nominee.  Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided not to launch a third-party bid.  He had stated previously he would enter the race if Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders looked like they’d win their respective nominations, but now he’s come to the conclusion—like nearly every other pundit in America—that Hillary will be on the November ballot.

If that’s not enough, Tad Devine, the Sanders’ campaign’s top strategist, admitted to Politico that accepting a VP nomination from Hillary was a possibility.

And if that’s not enough, a new study came out stating that Bernie Sanders was the MOST PARTISAN member of the United States Senate, one rung ahead of the abominable Ted Cruz.

So how does someone like Bernie cross the aisle to get cooperation for his delusional promises when he’s worse than Cruz in dealing with those who don’t inhabit his ideological planet?

None of this will make a particle of difference to the Sanders supporters. They’ll try to hang on until the convention, and when Hillary gets the nomination they’ll claim it was unfair and a set up.

Trying to reason with a Sanders supporter about Bernie’s dwindling chances for the Democratic nomination is like telling an eight-year-old there’s no such thing as Santa Claus. They don’t want to hear you, and they can’t handle the truth.

Mr. Sanders won the Michigan primary last night.  This will energize him and his followers, but it will only prolong the agony.  Because my heart is pure and I lead a good Christian life I feel a moral obligation to convince the Berniacs not to set themselves up for more angst and anguish.  I know, my altruism is a curse (insert smiley face here).

The fat lady hasn’t sung yet, but she’s backstage warming up.

Carlo, as you know, I’ve been saying variations of the same thing for almost a year. Berniacs really are like religious zealots, which wouldn’t be so bad except for the vitriol they heap on Clinton. It’s unfortunate that he won Michigan; that will just give them more reason to keep up their destructive crusade.

  2. You’re right. I woke up this morning thinking it would be all over if she’d won Michigan. Now this is going to go on and on and on.

It might as well go on and on. Without the two of them, there will be nothing left to listen to but Trumpeteers and Cruzers, and the thought of that just made me throw up in my mouth a little bit…

I respect BS for the same reason I respected (?) Ted Kennedy. They are/were two crazy idiots but at least they are honest. Excluding girls in ponds of course. Hillary? No respect for her at all. That is why this will go on and on. Some Democrats actually want a honest likable person. Something she ain’t.
