ALLEGORY ANSWERS

I promised to give my interpretation of the two allegories listed in yesterday’s blog.

Allegory # 1 involved a female CEO of a widget company who’d been dealing with her product since 1973.  She was being irritated by a new female employee and her three female buddies who had little to no experience with widgets but were telling her how to run the company after six months on the job.  When the CEO made some sarcastic and cutting remarks to these women of color, they played the race card and got offended because she was dismissive.

That was an easy one.  Nancy Pelosi is the CEO (Speaker of the House) and the new rookie employees are Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib.  By going public with their gripes they have made Republicans and the news media joyful about the rift in the Democratic Party between the moderate and progressive factions.  This is a gift to Donald Trump and the GOP, and one has to wonder if the primary focus of progressives is regaining the White House or ramming home their agenda to control the party even if it results in an electoral loss.

Allegory #2 involved the losing New York Jets football team acquiring overpowering running backs and offensive lineman, and winning 18 straight games by running the ball on every play.  Right before the Super Bowl some players and fans insisted on abandoning the run in favor of Hail Mary passes.  This idea makes no sense.

In 2018 Democrats flipped 40 seats in the House of Representatives and took control of that body.  This resulted in Nancy Pelosi, who was the mastermind behind this victory, becoming Speaker of the House for the second time, two heartbeats away from the presidency.  It has enabled Democrats to hold hearings on Donald Trump’s obstructions of justice and conspiracies.  It has made a huge difference in American politics.  The GOP no longer has control of the House, Senate, and presidency.

How did they win 40 seats?  By running the ball. They ran moderate, centrist candidates who defeated incumbent Republicans in red and purple states. They were highly successful, and it was one of the biggest victories in 50 years.

So how do some Democratic office holders and some Democratic voters want to proceed? What lesson did they learn in 2018?

They absorbed nothing. They want to go into the 2020 election, not doing what works, but instead nominating left-wing progressive candidates, candidates who will completely turn off the voters who flipped and voted for moderate Democrats.  They want to throw Hail Mary passes, and in spite of all the evidence to the contrary, they’ve convinced themselves this is the way to go.

This makes no sense.  What are you gonna do?

Absolutely, 110% correct. I couldn’t have said it better and in simpler terms. It isn’t that they cannot understand it. They refuse to understand. I just hope we all don’t end up paying an unimaginable price for their arrogance and ignorance. “They” being the self-proclaimed Progressives, of course. The “woke” ones who walk with us, sharing their wisdom and showing us how to lose a card game when you have a winning hand.
