Last fall my wife and I went through customs in Edinburgh, Scotland. The customs officer noted approvingly that it was our sixth visit in six years. He knew we had enough money to fly there, and that we’d drop at least a couple of thousand dollars in our three week sojourn, but he still wanted to know why we were in the country, where we were going, the address and contact information of our lodgings, and what kinds of items we brought with us.
Scotland is at least ten times more liberal than the United States. The Scottish people are not racist, or sexist (their leader is a woman named Nicola Sturgeon), or homophobic, or Islamophobic, or anti-immigrant. In spite of that, it is doubtful their government would be unconcerned and indifferent about foreigners crossing the border illegally and taking up residence in the country.
Yet most of the Democratic presidential candidates in last Thursday night’s debate took a far left position proposing no deportations for those whose only offense is being undocumented and the decriminalization of border crossing. They want to call it a “civil offense.”
Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016 almost solely on the issue of immigration. It wasn’t about the economy, or climate change, or e-mails, or health care, or any of the other issues progressives like to cite. It was about race.
In his opening remarks announcing his campaign he called Mexicans “rapists.” He moved on to “Build a Wall. His slogan was “Make America Great Again,” but what he meant was “Make America White Again.”
He campaigned on white supremacy, and he’s been governing that way for 2 ½ years. Every time he has a political problem he goes back to emphasis on the border in order to distract from the issue at hand and please his racist base.
It’s clear he believes he can ride this issue to re-election. So what do progressive Democrats do? They play right into his hands by indicating they’re for open borders.
Wait, wait, it gets worse. From the New York Times:
“Every Democratic presidential candidate onstage at the second night of the debate raised their hand when asked if they would extend health care coverage to undocumented immigrants. The issue is sure to become a flashpoint in the presidential race. Immediately after the candidates said insurance should cover undocumented immigrants, President Donald Trump tweeted about it.
“All Democrats just raised their hands for giving millions of illegal aliens unlimited health care. How about taking care of American Citizens first!?” Trump tweeted.
The support from these presidential candidates is a departure from current law. The Affordable Care Act does not provide insurance to undocumented immigrants.”
There are millions of American citizens whose families have lived in this country for generations, and they have no health insurance and no prescription coverage. Progressives want Medicare for All but they haven’t passed that yet and probably never will. So what’s their fallback position?
Advocate for complete health care coverage for illegal immigrants after making certain illegal entry is no longer illegal.
While not a fan of conspiracy theories, it’s worth contemplating whether or not progressives are clandestinely in the employ of the Republican Party. Are they trying to throw the presidential election by actions in 2019 the way Shoeless Joe Jackson (Say it ain’t so, Joe) threw the World Series in 1919?
Certainly one question they should be asked is, “WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?”
by
It’s a question worth asking. It is as though somebody asked them “How could you possibly lose to a thieving traitor?” And the Dems said “We will show you exactly how to do that”. And they are. I am not part of this suicide pact, and I won’t suffer for it. It isn’t going to be my fault when Trump gets elected for four more years and we become an illiberal democracy.
